Over the past few months we have discovered the foundations of the Body~Mind connection through the language of the body, power of our thoughts, befriending our emotions and the quiet voice of our spirit. So, what’s next?
If you’ve read previous posts or know me professionally, you’ve heard me say: baby steps matter. Small steps toward positive change have a large impact on long-lasting transformation.
Baby steps take the pressure off of having to accomplish a big lifestyle change all at once. Taking baby steps offers the opportunity for small, measurable successes. Small successes you can implement. This helps you gain confidence in the process and gives you a sense of progress.
The mind is the governing factor here. We get to choose how we want to be and/or react in any given situation, internally and externally. It’s so simple and yet so hard. If you’re ready to embark on nurturing the relationship with yourself…become mindful of the direction your mind has a tendency to go.
Become self-aware. Notice where your thoughts travel when faced with a challenging situation. Here are some questions to think about. Do you:
- Emotionally overreact with anger, frustration, and/or self-pity?
- Mask your negative feeling(s) with food, alcohol, or medication?
- Ignore your body’s aches, pains and/ or illness?
- Reject needed rest and relaxation because you’re compensating for others?
- Lack healthy personal boundaries and end up feeling resentful and disrespected?
Over time you’ll get better at noticing and soon you will have the ability to stop yourself before you head down the old familiar road of automatic behaviors. Please remember to be gentle with yourself – this is a learning process and takes a lot of practice!
Remember, the mind is powerful; we can think or “feel” ourselves into a frenzy in a matter of seconds, depending on the trigger. Practicing awareness is where your power for change resides.
Control freaks unite: this is the one place you have ultimate control. Whatever is going on outside of ourselves is happening whether we like it or not, but we have the control to choose how we navigate through it.
Remember, you matter! If life seems too hard or unworkable….if your thoughts feel crazy-making, or if deep down you know something needs to change, but you’re not sure what….Body~Mind Coaching could be the answer. Book a free 15 minute introductory coaching session to find out.
Until next time ~ take good care,
